Founder and director of UGA Engineering’s Multi-Spectral Imagery Lab and associate professor in the College of Engineering, Thirimachos Bourlai, Ph.D., along with colleague Susan El-Naggar, has conducted new research and development of ear recognition technology which could take the place of facial recognition, fingerprint verification, or iris detection.

In a hygiene-conscious, post-Covid 19 world, Dr. Bourlai’s proposed technology could become the new mainstream. It’s also more convenient in many cases as ears are one of the few body parts which remains unchanged over time.

Dr. Bourlai’s Multi-Spectral Imagery Lab at the Driftmier Engineering Center specializes in biometrics and multispectral imaging sensors, including thermal imaging.
