What is your favorite thing about being a student at UGA?

“One of my favorite things about being a student at UGA is the community that UGA provides. Whether it’s in class or in any of the amazing clubs across campus, there is always an inclusive and fun space to be a part of!”

Why did you choose engineering?

“I chose engineering for the challenge. Growing up, I always found math to be one of my weaker subjects, but I was interested in physics and passionate about pursuing a degree that allowed me to make a difference after graduating.”

Why is it important for the university to have a diverse community?

“It’s extremely important for us to continue to diversify our university because diversity brings ideas and innovation. It can sometimes be challenging to be in spaces where you look different than everyone else, but finding spaces within the College of Engineering like SWE and SASE have allowed me to find a community of support and friendship.”

What has been the greatest challenge you have faced while at UGA?

“One of my greatest challenges at UGA has been coursework. Engineering is definitely challenging, but asking questions, going to class, and being patient with myself has allowed me to find success in my degree.”

What have you learned that has made a difference for you?

“Asking questions and being open about not understanding topics is not something to be embarrassed about. It has allowed me to communicate my needs to my professors and my peers to access help when I need it. It is also crucial to create relationships with your professors and TAs––they have to many resources and knowledge to share!”

Who has helped you become a successful student at UGA?

“My professors, peers, and parents have and continue to support me tremendously through my time at UGA, personally and academically. From extra help to general advice, I would not be where I am without those people. They have allowed me to grow in so many ways.”

What is your favorite spot on campus and why?

“My favorite spot on campus is the reading room at the Main Library. It is always so nice to look out at the North Campus quad, especially during the fall when the leaves are changing colors!”

What has been your favorite class at UGA?

“One of my favorite engineering classes was statics with Dr. Fahram. It was my first look into what engineering courses were really like and made me excited about the courework to come. Outside of engineering, I loved taking Swahili in the World with Dr. Maganda. It was so cool to learn about other cultures and do so many fun activities throughout the semester!”

What’s been your best memory at UGA so far?

“Meeting my two best friends who lived on my freshman dorm hall and having the opportunity to study abroad this past summer in the United Kingdom.”

What advice do you have for younger students who wish to pursue engineering?

“Be diligent and don’t give up! Engineering is hard, but you can do it. Network, join clubs, meet different people, and take every opportunity that comes your way––you never know what you can learn!”

How do you hope to impact society with your engineering degree?

“I hope to create a more sustainable world with my degree. I hope to make real, tangible change in the realm of climate change and contribute to building a better, cleaner future.”
