Julie P. Martin, professor of engineering education and director of UGA’s Engineering Education Transformations Institute (EETI), was inducted into the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) Hall of Fame at this month’s ASEE 130th Anniversary Gala.
The ASEE Hall of Fame honors “Engineering and Engineering Technology Education standouts whose work has made a significant impact on engineering education. The impact of their contribution outweighs where or when it was made.” Martin was inducted for her contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion and research capacity building in the field. She is one of 25 inductees in the first Hall of Fame class in 30 years.
Martin has an extensive record of advancing engineering education. Prior to joining UGA as EETI director this year, she served as the inaugural assistant vice president for research and team talent development in the Office of Knowledge Enterprise at The Ohio State University (OSU). Martin previously served as National Science Foundation (NSF) program director in the Engineering Directorate, where she managed a $20M annual budget and a portfolio of 250 active engineering education grants. While at NSF, she represented the Engineering Directorate on the writing team for the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy’s 5-Year Federal STEM Education Strategic Plan. Her influence extends to various national leadership roles, including her involvement with the Women in Engineering ProActive Network, where she served as national president; the Journal of Women and Minorities in Science and Engineering, where she is editor in chief; and ASEE, where she is a Fellow.
